Salt Works
In 1923 a Salt Works near Tasman Park was floated into a public company. It is assumed the venture was instigated by Cyril BLACKET. The works were situated where the Aloha Caravan Park is west of Island Point Road and consisted of tiered concrete slabs 5.5m by 3.7m. At the bottom of the tiers was a concrete tank 1.2m deep and 12m by 9m (later it became the Children's Pool of the Park). Water was pumped in from the Basin and heated by an old steam engine, via wooden pipes bound with wire, and flowed down the tiers several times. After the water evaporated the salt was scraped from the tiers and dried, before being carted to Nowra. It is understood that the plant was too small to be viable and then was destroyed by fire in 1932. [1]
